St. Patrick's Day Parade 2010

St. Patrick's Day Parade

CYC New York 2010

From Pat Guerin of the NY Minor Board

It is with great excitement and anticipation the New York Minor Board is announcing that it will be hosting the 2010 Continental Youth Championships from July 29th through August 1st at Eisenhower Park. As many of you know, this tournament style Championship will bring over 1,500 elite players from across the nation, plus teams from Canada, Ireland, and England to the Long Island area to compete in Gaelic Games.  It is expected to be the largest gathering for this event since its inception with over 250 matches expected to be played over the 4 day period.

Unlike the past the Games are scheduled to be over 4 days with a Parade on the 29th, in the town of Rockville Center commencing at 7:00P.M., with all of the participants taking part. Also, the Mineola Irish Center will hold their Annual Irish Night Concert on the Sunday at the conclusion of our games at the Harry Chapman Lakeside Theater in Eisenhower Park. This is just one of the many activities that will be surrounding our NY CYC Games.

Note: We will have games scheduled beginning on Thursday 29th so we will need to be in New York for Wednesday.

Summer Season

We are currently finalising the dates for our Outdoor Season and will be available soon. Training will be on Monday nights with games on weekends (Saturday or Sunday). The first tournament will be our own annual George Curry Tournament on Saturday May 29th. More details to follow.

U-12 Game v Brampton

On Saturday 20th February our U-12 team will play v Brampton at DISC, Durham Indoor Soccer Centre. Time 10am - 11am. Kid's born in 1997 or later are eligible to play.

Our normal training that morning will be cancelled for our other age groups, but will return to normal the following week.

Durham 4-09 v Brampton 5-07

Durham and Brampton provided all spectators with a very entertaining game this morning with an emphasis from both sides on speed and skill and some excellent players on both teams.

In a fine all round team performance Durham had excellent performances from Ethan at full back who fielded many high balls and was ably assisted by Blair and Landon whose many timely interceptions kept Durham in the game when under pressure.

In midfield Emmett kept Durham in the game when Brampton were dominant. His midfield partner Karleigh performed a great marking role in midfield and defence cutting out many dangerous attacks. Luc had a pivotal display at left full forward throughout linking well with defence and attack. In attack we had other fine performances from Liam, Megan, Josh, Alex and Patrick.

Congratulations to Landon and Josh who just made their debut with Durham and performed tremendously. Stars of the future!

Ryan was excellent throughout in goals and has become number one goalie for Durham Shamrocks.

Full team: Ryan Giffin, Landon, Ethan Young, Blair Coulter-Vansickle, Emmett Young, Karleigh Knox, Luc Comire, Megan Bentham, Liam Killoran, Will Murphy, Josh Collins, Alex Coulter-Vansickle and Patrick Smith.
