About Our Program

We believe that participation should be used to help children develop, and that players should play for the “fun of it”. Durham GFC are running programs that offer children of all skill levels a new and exciting sport to enjoy. Our sessions focus on the basic skills of Gaelic (Irish) Football such as catching, kicking, passing and scoring. Players will learn to enhance their balance, co-ordination and speed while using their imagination and creativity to play with ability and enjoyment. We endeavour to create good sport playing habits from an early age and each session combines skill exercises and lots of game play to facilitate player
enjoyment.

Irish (Gaelic) Football 4 Kids Programs

Fundamentals (5-7 years)
A fun and rewarding skills program that introduces Gaelic Football in a fun and rewarding manner. The clinic focuses on the basic principles of athletics such as balance and coordination with lots of ball interaction.

Football Essentials (8-12 years)
A program geared to the 8-12 year stage of development. Children are instructed in core football skills and good football habits. It emphasizes coordination and movement, presented in skill exercises and small sided football games. The young player is still refining his/her basic ball skills while beginning to learn more about the concepts of space, and movement in relation to Gaelic Football. There is a stronger focus on the more difficult skills of the game using creative and challenging games.

Minor Program (13 years +)
A program designed more like a complete club training session. Focus still remains on the players stage of development and skill level and instilling a solid foundation. All skills and tactics of Gaelic Football are addressed at this level.
